"Youth are inherently powerful"

 Hello friends, 

This month, we reaffirm the Point of Unity that says “Youth are inherently powerful.” As a membership, our work is to support youth leadership in our programs and communities. Our world and our work has changed rapidly over the last year. It has taken all the compassion, curiosity, and flexibility we could manage to approach these changes with an open mind. As many of us come to the end of our summer programming and move toward our year round events, now would be an ideal moment to ask ourselves, “How can we center young people at this stage of the work?” We are organizing alongside and for the next generation of movement makers. It is imperative that their voices be heard louder than ours and that we continually pass the mic to make their dreams a reality. As you uplift youth leadership (and any work!) you are doing in your home organizations, please share them with us by tagging us on social media or by sending an email to outreach@girlsrockcampalliance.org. 

This month, we offer a statement of solidarity for the devastating events that took places in Beirut earlier this summer, including some ways for our GRCA community to be accomplices with folks in Beirut at this time. This newsletter also includes continuing anti-racism resources for the ongoing fight against racism and anti-Blackness around the globe.

We need each other now more than ever.

Beirut Solidarity Statement 

The GRCA mourns the loss and devastation of the explosion in Beirut on August 4th 2020. 

Our hearts are with all those who have felt the impact of this tragedy, and recognize that as the world continues to struggle with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, our siblings in Lebanon are now facing this immense loss and an economic crisis that has further threatened the health, safety, and well-being of their communities.

As an organization committed to collective liberation, we also express our solidarity with protesters, activists, and revolutionaries who are demanding structural changes to create safety and security for Lebanese communities.

Anti-Racism Resources in the GRCA Community Space

We have two Units in the GRCA Community Space: Anti-Racism Resources for Adult Learners, and Teaching Anti-Racism to Youth.

GRCA Community is a private virtual space for Girls Rock Camp Alliance member organizations, where you can find and share resources, join interest and working groups, explore and experience events happening all over the globe, and stay in touch with other GRCA members.

¡Hola, amigxs!

Este mes, reafirmamos el Punto de Unidad que dice "Lxs jóvenes son inherentemente poderosxs".  Como miembros, nuestro trabajo consiste en apoyar el liderazgo juvenil en nuestros programas y comunidades.  Nuestro mundo y nuestro trabajo han cambiado rápidamente durante el último año.  Ha sido necesaria toda la compasión, la curiosidad y la flexibilidad que pudimos lograr para abordar estos cambios con una mente abierta.  Como muchos de nosotros llegamos al final de nuestra programación de verano y avanzamos hacia nuestros eventos durante todo el año, ahora sería un momento ideal para preguntarnos: "¿Cómo podemos centrar a lxs jóvenes en esta etapa del trabajo?"  Nos estamos organizando todxs juntxs para la próxima generación de creadores de movimientos.  Es imperativo que sus voces se escuchen más fuerte que la nuestra y que continuamente pasamos el micrófono para hacer realidad sus sueños.  Mientras siguen  elevando el liderazgo juvenil (¡y cualquier trabajo!) que estén haciendo en sus organizaciones de origen, compártelos con nosotros etiquetándonos en las redes sociales o enviando un correo electrónico a outreach@girlsrockcampalliance.org.

Este mes, ofrecemos una declaración de solidaridad por los devastadores eventos que tuvieron lugar en Beirut a principios de este verano, incluidas algunas formas para que nuestra comunidad GRCA sea solidaria con la gente de Beirut en este momento.  Este boletín también incluye recursos continuos contra el racismo para la lucha continua contra el racismo en todo el mundo.

La GRCA lamenta la pérdida y devastación de la explosión en Beirut el 4 de agosto de 2020.

Nuestros corazones están con todxs aquellxs que han sentido el impacto de esta tragedia y reconocemos que mientras el mundo continúa luchando con los efectos de la pandemia Covid-19, nuestrxs hermanxs en el Líbano ahora enfrentan esta inmensa pérdida y una crisis económica que ha  amenazó aún más la salud, la seguridad y el bienestar de sus comunidades.

Como organización comprometida con la liberación colectiva, también expresamos nuestra solidaridad con lxs manifestantes, activistas y revolucionarixs que exigen cambios estructurales para crear seguridad para las comunidades libanesas.
